       Work Completed in 2003

WELTON PARISH CHURCH

This involved carrying out the third and last phase on this very nice two manual and pedal Instrument built by J. W. Walker & Sons in 1903.

This is a largish two manual with five Reeds designed by Samuel Wilkinson Pilling who was honorary Organist there for 37 years, initially some stops were prepared for but the job was finally finished in the tonal sense in 1908. The Instrument has 1376 pipes.

This phase included the cleaning and overhauling of the manual mechanical action including the keys, the drawstop and composition pedal actions and the cleaning and patching of the Bellows.

GARFORTH PARISH CHURCH

We carried out another phase of work as we are gradually restoring the Organ in phases.

This time we worked on the Pedal Organ, which involved the overhaul of the Pedal Open and Bourdon Chests and the overhaul of the Pedal Board and associated pedal action and couplers.

Here are some general pictures of the job and pipework, before and after we have carried out various work.

ROCHDALE TOWN HALL

This is a wonderful sounding 4 manual Binns Organ built in 1913, and was Rebuilt and Electrified in 1979 by walkers.

In the Summer of 2003 we were asked to carry out some remedial work.

This amounted to the Cleaning and overhauling of the Great Soundboard and Pipework due to constant problems with rain water coming in over this area. The Tuba was almost unplayable due to failure of the purflex covered motors, so the pipework and chest was overhauled in our workshop.

Also the Choir drawstop action was failing with wind pouring out of the exhaust holes. This time the motors were covered in the yellow polylon that many firms used to use.

Both the polylon and the purflex has proved to be no successor to the good old faithful leatherwork!!!

The Great is a very large chromatic Soundboard with 13 stops on it. This was top overhauled and all the pipework was removed, re-slided and cleaned and reset in the Organ.

We also managed to get out and re-leather the Bottom 12 motors on the 32ft Open, most notes were off here before we started work.

Hopefully one day this very nice Instrument will be cleaned again.

Here are some photos of the work
