PONTEFRACT ALL SAINTS P.C.

We have finished Restoring and Modernizing the Organ at the above.

This is a Abbott and Smith Organ which was completely pneumatic and situated on a West End Gallery.

We have updated to electro - pneumatic action and restored both Soundboards and releathered the Bellows.

There have been some tonal changes and the specification will read as follows:

Much thanks to all the staff including, Neil Webster, Steve Warsop, Chris Holford and a special thanks to Brian Wilson, who has helped us in all Tonal matters.

Colin Tate has also made a superb job of the Casework, Console and Front pipes and helped us in many other ways!

NOTES :

GREAT    -  The existing Great Piccolo stop was in a poor condition and this has been replaced by a new spotted metal Fifteenth.

The Dulciana has been replaced by a new 2rk sesquialtera mixture 12 - 17 also spotted metal.

SWELL - The Swell Horn has been taken off its slide and put on a new electric chest at the back of the Swell box which has been extended. This has been revoiced to give more Trumpet Tone and extended down to 16ft pitch. This is now playable on the Swell, Great and Pedal.

The vacant slide has been used for  a new chorus mixture pitch at 12 - 15 also spotted metal. It is at this pitch because there is no stand alone 15th on the Swell.

PEDAL  - The Pedal Open Wood has been improved by providing new pipes from middle C upwards in metal to give this section more drive, this has also been extended up to 4ft pitch.

The Bourdon is now extended by 12 notes to add the 4ft pitch

DARESBURY ALL SAINTS

We carried out this overhaul on behalf of Nicholson's in the spring of this year.

We are grateful to Andrew Moyes to allow us to put this information on our Web Site.

The work consisted of a full cleaning and overhaul, with all magnets renewed, the updating of the Electric's to Taylor Solid State Systems, the releathering of all the Bellows and the modification of the wind system to eradicate the very unsteady wind and finally we improved the Great Tonal Chorus, which was very underpowered. ( well done Guy! ) and improved the sound into the Church by re-spacing the side front pipes.

We were very pleased to work with the Organist ( Marion Massey) and the Vicar who made the job go all that better. In fact all the parishioners made us feel very welcome.

We must thank Gordon Stewart who gave an excellent opening Recital on 19th July, 2002 with absolutely terrible weather conditions outside to contend with.

Here is the Recital Programme!

HOLDERNESS ROAD METHODIST CHURCH - HULL

This work started on July 3rd and finished on 30th November, 2002.

This Instrument, by Lewis, was originally installed in the Brunswick Church ( Hull ) in 1915. It was converted to electro-pneumatic action, and some tonal alterations were made, in 1958, by Hall and Broadfield. It was dismantled and stored in 1961 when the Brunswick church was demolished, and in 1963 was erected in the present Church which was built on the same site. Hall & Broadfield also did the Installation.

The Instrument is three manuals and pedals and is played from a traditional Drawstop console placed immediately in front of the plain paneled casework at floor level.

The building frame stands on a concrete floor about eighteen inches below the Church floor level.

NOTES

This Organ has never had a tracker action. The action was charge pneumatic when installed in 1915. It was changed to exhaust -pneumatic when electrified. Unfortunately Hall & Broadfield did all this work and it was rather substandard in many respects.

LEEDS PARISH CHURCH - NEW JUBILEE TRUMPET

We have been given this rare opportunity to have a new heavy pressure Reed made and fitted to replace the existing Solo Tuba 8ft at Leeds Parish Church.

This needed to be something special and Terry Shires made an excellent job of the pipework and this was then duly very kindly  voiced by David Frostick, who went out of his way to produce this superb sound that we now have at the Parish Church. I think he is still recovering from the volume of this stop in his workshop, but in the Organ this is well controlled by the Solo Swell Box.

Simon Lindley came up with the very apt name of Jubilee Trumpet and this is voiced on 16 inches wind pressure, the same as the existing Tuba 16ft is on.

These are a few pictures of the pipework and the installation.
