TONAL NOTES

 POSITIVE

With helpful guidance from Paul Hale we hope to have improved this section dramatically.

Basically we had a new large scale Nazard made by Terry Shires to be flute and warm toned. The original Nazard was rescaled to match the Nazard and made into a Tierce. The existing Block Flute was increased in scale and new trebles of a better quality were added.

SWELL

We have increased the power of this section and re- regulated. The Swell Clarion lacked character and did not match the rest of the Reeds. This has been greatly improved.

GENERAL

All Choruses have been matched up, the Pedal Open Metal 16 was always slow so this has been bearded and this is now much better.

LEEDS TOWN HALL ORGAN

During the summer recess we have updated the Console Electric's.

There has been much trouble in the past with sticking Drawstop solenoids so these are being renewed with Taylor Long Throw ones.

The capture System has been updated with more levels and a new Stepper facility has been added.

A Card Reader System to remember pistons setting fro the whole Organ will be fitted later when the software is updated.

Most important are the Keys themselves, we have had an all new tracker touch action fitted with all new contacts and new reed switch pistons units fitted to a more conventional layout.

As the wiring dates from the 70's and was a particular nightmare, all this has been renewed in the Console.

Independent low voltage switch mode power supplies have been used.

Just a few pictures of the Console showing the new piston layout and new Drawstop solenoids wired up.

ROCHDALE, HOPE BAPTIST CHAPEL

This is quite and interesting Alex Young job of Manchester ( 1895 ) and is all mechanical action.

We have carried out various work over the years here after the Chapel has been renovated. Before this it was relatively untouched and in a poor condition.

Gradually we are trying to improve matters as funding allows.

The specification is

Gt. 8,8,8,8,8,4,2

Sw. 16,8,8,8,8,4,2,8,8

Ped 16

Previously we have had the Swell and Great Pipework out and repaired and cleaned this, most of the Swell Reeds and strings had collapsed. Terry Shires from Leeds has done an excellent job in repairing and reinstating all this.

This time we have restored the Manual Mechanical action and recovered the Keys. This has awkward runs because the Great Soundboard is side on to the Swell Soundboard, so there are several changes in direction.

A few photos of the job as it was.
